Leveraging Complexity Concepts and Methods for Sustainable Economies, Organizations, and Innovation Systems

Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II
Dipartimento di Ingegneria Industriale

May 31st, 2024
Aula Scipione Bobbio, Piazzale Tecchio 80, 80125, Naples (Italy)

Workshop theme

In today’s world, organizations, supply and value networks, economies, and innovation systems are facing big challenges as they are required to take part in digital and green transformation processes. These systems, as the transition processes in which they are involved, are complex and dynamic systems, in which heterogenous and autonomous agents interact not-linearly and co-evolve with the changing environment. This workshop aims to discuss how to understand and manage these big shifts using concepts and approaches from complexity science. We will examine how different collective entities, from single companies to whole industries, are finding innovative ways to succeed in this changing world.

The workshop will cover new research and methods that help these groups adapt and grow.

A focus is also devoted to the definition of structural archetypes and coordination mechanisms for the design of resilient and sustainable supply chains. This is the central objective of the MICS (Made in Italy - Circular and Sustainable) project funded in the context of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) by the Italian Ministry of the University and Research.

By bringing together different perspectives, we hope to find new ways to deal with the challenges of today’s fast-changing environment, making it easier for these complex systems to move forward in a challenging world.
