The Theoretical and Applied Aerodynamic Research Group (TAARG) is a team of professors and researchers employed in research activities related to various contents of Aerodynamics and Fluid Dynamics. Team members pertain to Dipartimento di Ingegneria Industriale - Aerospace Division (DII) and to Dipartimento di Ingegneria Chimica, dei Materiali e della Produzione Industriale (DICMAPI).

The research group is involved in both Theoretical and Applied Aerodynamics research fields. Aircraft Aerodynamics, Rotary Wing and Wind Turbine Aerodynamics are the macro contents where the group is performing its research activity. In particular, it is mainly focused on Theoretical and Computational Aerodynamic forces prediction and breakdown, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for fixed and moving aerodynamic bodies, Turbulence modeling for CFD, panel methods for fixed and moving aerodynamic bodies.

The team develops in house CFD codes and also employs other parties software for aerodynamic and fluid dynamic calculations.

The research activity is documented by several papers published on the main scientific journals dedicated to Fluid Dynamics. The TAARG is often involved in international research projects and has several cooperation with Italian and international research centers and industrial companies such as CIRA (Italian Aerospace Research Center), DLR (the German Aerospace Research Center), the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), Alenia Company, Reparto Sperimentale di Volo dell'Aeronautica Militare Italiana and others.

Partecipated to several European funded research programs, more recents are JTI-CS (Joint Technology Initiative Clean Sky), DeSiReH (Design, Simulation and Flight Reynolds Testing for Advanced High-Lift Solutions), ExtIcE (Extreme Icing Environment), AirDATA (Aircraft Drag and Thrust Analysis).
